Oak Gift Tree

Description

Sessile Oak – darach in Gaelic. This gift tree is grown from an acorn collected locally, nurtured to a young sapling in the Isle of Eigg Tree Nursery. These trees are cell-grown saplings, ranging from approximately 20-60cm in height. Presented in a hessian bag protecting the roots in transit along with an information sheet with planting guidance, all enclosed and delivered in a postal tube.

Cell-grown trees can be planted all year round. Please be aware that if purchased in autumn/winter trees will be dormant and in spring/summer they will be actively growing.

Renowned in history and legend, oak trees symbolise great power and strength. No other tree species in the UK supports a greater diversity of life, supporting a colossal 2,300 wildlife species, providing vital spaces to eat, shelter and breed.

Oak trees do best in a spot in full sun or partial shade, and can be grown in most moist but well-drained soils. Avoid permanently waterlogged areas.

It has all the potential to grow up 20-40 metres in height, but will tolerate and be controlled by pruning. An Oak tree can live for many hundreds of years.
