Our community is taking direct action to protect our native tree species, ancient woodland ecosystems, safe-guarding our bio security and responding to the Climate Crisis. The Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust established the Eigg Tree Nursery in 2018. Growing trees from seed collected locally to secure a reliable source of native trees with local provenance stock. Not only creating a reliable source of trees for our woodland projects, we have been endorsed through The Woodland Trust’s assurance scheme, UK and Ireland Sourced and Grown (UKISG) a voluntary initiative for forest nurseries. The scheme identifies the provenance of stock to buyers and assures that trees have been raised from seed sourced and grown solely within the UK and Ireland for its entire lifespan. With the creation of the tree nursery and growing our own stock this significantly reduces the risk of importing pests and diseases to the island giving further protection for our native trees.

The Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust owns and manages 247 hectares of forest land. With your help we could exceed our mission of growing and planting 52,300 trees on the Isle of Eigg by 2027. You can get involved in various ways by donating towards the Tree Nursery or purchase a tree as a gift, birth or memory tree.
