Help us to protect our native tree species and ancient woodlands. At Eigg Tree Nursery we are collecting seed from native pioneer species locally, storing the seed over winter or some species like Hawthorn are stored for eighteen months and Holly for 2 – 3yrs! We then germinate the seed in spring, seedlings will then be transplanted into cells to grow on for a year, usually two to three years until they grow to a plant-able size. We then use this stock to plant back into the woodlands the seed was collected from, ensuring the longevity of our precious woodland habitats and the protection of our native trees, wildlife, forest floor habitats, flora, fauna and fungi.
